Basic Properties
Physical Properties
Appearance: Pale yellow, transparent, viscous liquid at room temperature. Industrial grade concentrations are typically 30%–35%, with no obvious odor.
Solubility: Easily soluble in water, ethanol, and other polar solvents. Aqueous solutions are weakly acidic to neutral (pH 5.0–7.0). It does not separate into layers when mixed with water in any proportion.
Stability: Stable under normal temperature and sealed conditions. Resistant to hard water and acids/alkalis (stable within the pH range of 3.0–11.0). Slight decomposition and reduced surface activity may occur after prolonged heating at high temperatures (>120℃).
Surface Activity: Exhibits excellent foaming, emulsifying, solubilizing, and antistatic properties. Effectively reduces the surface tension of water and exhibits good compatibility with anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants.

Betaine belongs to the amide type, and its molecular structure contains both a hydrophilic quaternary ammonium salt group and a hydrophobic long-chain alkyl group. It exhibits typical characteristics of amphoteric surfactants, displaying anionic or cationic properties under different pH conditions.
Contact with strong oxidizing agents will cause a slight oxidation reaction, resulting in a darker color of the product. Therefore, it should be avoided to mix it with high concentrations of hypochlorite, potassium permanganate, etc.

I. Daily Chemical and Personal Care Products (Core Application Scenarios)
Personal Cleaning Products:
- As a core foaming and thickening ingredient in shampoos, shower gels, and hand soaps, it produces rich, dense foam, gently cleansing while protecting the skin and scalp, reducing irritation to the skin barrier. It is especially suitable for formulating baby care products and cleansing products specifically for sensitive skin.
- It can be used in facial cleansers and makeup removers, combining cleansing power with gentleness. It effectively dissolves oil and dirt while reducing the tightness caused by traditional surfactants.
Hair Care Products:
- Added to conditioners and hair masks, it acts as an anti-static agent, reducing static electricity and tangling in hair, making hair smoother and easier to comb. It also helps emulsify hair care ingredients such as silicone oil, enhancing the product's moisturizing effect.
Oral Care Products:
- Used in toothpaste and mouthwash formulas as a gentle foaming agent. The fine foam does not irritate the oral mucosa and helps clean plaque from the tooth surface with minimal impact on the oral flora.
II. Textile Printing and Dyeing Industry
Antistatic Agents and Softeners:
- Used in the pretreatment process of textile fibers, these agents reduce static electricity on the fiber surface, minimizing yarn breakage and pilling during spinning and weaving. They also impart a soft and smooth feel to the fibers, improving the comfort of wearing textiles.
Leveling Agents:
- Used as leveling auxiliaries in printing and dyeing processes, these agents enhance the dispersion and penetration of dyes on the fiber surface, resulting in more uniform dyeing and preventing color variations or uneven coloring. They are particularly suitable for dyeing protein fibers such as wool and silk.
Safety Precautions
Skin Contact: CAB-35 is a low-irritant surfactant and is mild on the skin at normal concentrations. However, high concentrations (>50%) or prolonged contact may cause dryness and tightness. It is recommended to wear nitrile gloves during handling to avoid direct skin contact. If contact occurs, rinse with water; no special treatment is needed. If itching or erythema occurs, apply a mild moisturizer immediately. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
Eye Protection: High concentrations of CAB-35 splashed into the eyes can irritate the conjunctiva, causing stinging and redness. Wear safety goggles during handling, especially when stirring or diluting the solution. If eye contact occurs, immediately lift the eyelids and flush with plenty of running water for 10-15 minutes, rotating the eyeballs to promote drainage. If symptoms do not improve, seek medical attention.
Respiratory Protection: CAB-35 is a viscous liquid that does not readily evaporate at room temperature. It only produces a small amount of irritating aerosol when heated at high temperatures (>80°C). Heating operations must be carried out in a fume hood or well-ventilated area, and disposable protective masks must be worn. Avoid prolonged inhalation of high-temperature fumes to prevent throat discomfort.
Ingestion Prevention: CAB-35 is not edible. Ingestion of small amounts of diluted solution may cause nausea and abdominal distension. Ingestion of high-concentration undiluted solution will irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, causing vomiting and diarrhea. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Eating and drinking are strictly prohibited in the work area. The product must be stored in a sealed container in a cool place, strictly separated from food, beverages, and animal feed. The packaging must be labeled **"Non-edible chemical product"**. In case of accidental ingestion, drink plenty of warm water to dilute the product. Do not induce vomiting. If symptoms are severe, bring the product label and seek medical attention.
