Paraformaldehyde is a polymer of formaldehyde with the chemical formula HO(CH₂O)ₙH (n=8-100). It appears as white crystalline powder or flake solid with a characteristic pungent odor of formaldehyde. This product depolymerizes to formaldehyde when heated or under acidic conditions, serving as a solid storage form of formaldehyde. It is widely used in synthetic resins, disinfection and sterilization, pesticide manufacturing, and other fields.
