Basic Properties

- Appearance: Light yellow to pale yellow transparent liquid

- Active content: ≥40% (common market specifications: 30%, 42%, 50%)

- Density (24°C): 1.13–1.19 g/mL

- pH: 11.2–11.8 (alkaline)

- Solubility: Highly soluble in water; miscible with ethylene glycol, lower alcohols, benzene, toluene, and chloroform; far superior to BTA (benzotriazole, which has poor water solubility)

- Melting point: -15°C; Flash point: 133.9°C

- Ionization and Alkalinity: It dissociates completely in aqueous solution into Na⁺ and benzotriazole anions (BTA⁻), resulting in a strongly alkaline solution.

- Reaction with Acids: The addition of acids (such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid) causes the precipitation of free BTA; this forms the basis for its purification via "acid precipitation" or for its in-situ conversion.



Main Applications

1. Industrial circulating cooling water

For circulating water systems in power plants, chemical facilities, and central air conditioning; protects copper heat exchangers and piping; prevents copper corrosion and copper ion migration; stabilizes water quality; suitable for both open and closed-loop systems.

2. Automotive antifreeze & engine coolant

A key additive for ethylene glycol-based coolants; inhibits corrosion in copper radiators and piping; prevents copper ions from catalyzing the oxidation of ethylene glycol into organic acids; prevents pitting corrosion on aluminum components; widely used in internal combustion engine cooling circuits.

3. Closed heat transfer fluid systems

For solar thermal heat exchange systems, nuclear reactor cooling circuits, and closed-loop boiler water systems; protects copper alloy heat exchange components; compatible with high-temperature heat transfer media.

4. Metalworking fluids

For cutting fluids, grinding fluids, and rust-preventive fluids used in copper and brass processing; prevents discoloration and tarnishing (loss of luster/blackening) of copper materials; simultaneously protects workpieces composed of multiple metals.


Safety Precautions

- Hazards: Alkaline; causes skin irritation and severe eye damage; harmful if swallowed; toxic to aquatic life.

- Handling & Protection: Wear safety goggles and alkali-resistant rubber gloves; avoid prolonged skin contact; rinse thoroughly with water after contact.

- Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from strong acids; do not store with acidic agents; keep in sealed containers (25kg/250kg plastic drums); minor sedimentation during prolonged storage is normal—shake well before use.
