Main Applications


  1. Polymer Production (>90% of capacity):

    • Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc): Used in white glue, paints, adhesives, and chewing gum base.

    • Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA): Produced by hydrolysis of VAM, used in textile sizing, paper coating, films, etc.

    • Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA): Used in hot-melt adhesives, foam materials (shoe soles), solar cell encapsulant films, and wire/cable insulation.

  2. Copolymerization:

    • Copolymerized with vinyl chloride, acrylates, etc., to modify resin properties.

  3. Other Uses:

    • Used as a chemical intermediate.

Safety Precautions


  • Health Hazards:

    • Vapors are highly irritating to the eyes, nose, and throat and are lachrymatory.

    • Inhalation of high concentrations may cause headache, dizziness, and drowsiness.

    • Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause skin and respiratory tract irritation. Classified by IARC as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B).

  • Physical & Chemical Hazards:

    • Highly flammable. Vapors form explosive mixtures with air. Easily ignited by heat, sparks, or flames.

    • Capable of exothermic self-polymerization if heated, exposed to light, or contaminated with peroxides. This can lead to pressure build-up and container rupture. Must be stabilized with inhibitors (e.g., hydroquinone) and stored under temperature control.

  • Protective Measures:

    • Ventilation: Use in explosion-proof, well-ventilated areas to prevent vapor accumulation.

    • Fire Prevention: Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and oxidizers. Use explosion-proof equipment.

    • Personal Protection:

      • Wear chemical safety goggles and face shield.

      • Wear impermeable gloves (e.g., nitrile rubber) and protective clothing.

      • Use a respirator with an organic vapor cartridge for vapor exposure. Use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in high-concentration areas.

    • Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated area, preferably below 25°C (often stored with cooling). Separate from oxidizers, acids, and bases. Monitor inhibitor levels regularly.

  • First Aid:

    • Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Keep airways clear. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen and seek medical attention.

    • Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

    • Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water or saline for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.

    • Spill: Eliminate ignition sources. Absorb with inert material (e.g., sand, earth). Collect in container. Prevent entry into drains.
