Chemical Properties

  • Strong Oxidizing Properties: Potassium peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent and reacts violently with many reducing agents.

  • Reaction with Carbon Dioxide: 4KO₂ + 2CO₂ → 2K₂CO₃ + 3O₂

  • Reaction with Water: 2KO₂ + 2H₂O → 2KOH + H₂O₂ + O₂

  • Hygroscopic Properties: Easily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air.
