Calcium nitrite is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ca (NO2) 2. This product is mainly used as an efficient steel corrosion inhibitor in concrete to prevent steel corrosion caused by chloride and significantly extend the service life of concrete structures. Basic Properties


  1. Physical Properties:
    · Appearance: Clear, colorless to light yellow liquid.
    · Density: 1.2-1.4 g/cm³ (20°C, concentration dependent).
    · pH Value: 10-12 (alkaline).
    · Solubility: Miscible with water.
    · Freezing Point: Significantly lower than pure water (concentration dependent).

  2. Chemical Properties:
    · Oxidizing properties, reacts with reducing agents.
    · Alkaline solution, decomposes with acids releasing nitrogen dioxide gas.
    · Forms protective oxide film on rebar surface through oxidation in concrete.
    · May produce hazardous compounds when mixed with ammonium salts.

  1. Concrete Admixture: Used as rebar corrosion inhibitor added to concrete to prevent chloride-induced corrosion, widely used in marine structures, bridges, parking garages, etc.

    · Oxidizing properties, may intensify fire when in contact with combustibles or reducing agents.
    · Avoid mixing with ammonium salts, organic materials, metal powders.

    · Causes irritation to eyes, skin, and respiratory tract.
    · Inhalation of mist or contact with liquid may cause irritation.
    · Harmful if swallowed, may cause methemoglobinemia.
    · Contact with acids liberates toxic nitrogen oxide gases.

  3. Handling Protection:
    · Wear chemical safety goggles, impermeable gloves, and protective clothing.
    · Avoid mist formation, prevent inhalation and skin contact.
    · Ensure adequate local ventilation.
    · Wash thoroughly after handling.

  4. Storage & Transportation:
    · Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat.
    · Keep containers tightly closed, use corrosion-resistant materials.
    · Store separately from reducing agents, combustibles, ammonium salts, and acids.
    · Protect containers from damage and leakage during transportation.

  5. Environmental Precautions:
    · Prevent entry into sewers and surface waters.
    · Dispose of waste in accordance with local regulations.
