- Hygroscopicity: Slight moisture‑sensitivity; absorbs trace moisture under high‑humidity environment

Chemical Properties

- Acid‑reaction characteristic: Reacts with dilute non‑oxidizing acids to generate corresponding barium salts and carbon‑dioxide gas.

- Thermal decomposition: High‑temperature calcination decomposes into barium oxide, which is the core reaction for electronic‑ceramic sintering process.

- Stability: Stable under normal temperature & dry conditions; avoid long‑term exposure to humid air.

1. Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) & Barium Titanate Production

Critical raw material for synthesizing high‑purity barium titanate dielectric powder, applied for MLCC chip capacitors, improving dielectric property and product consistency for miniaturized electronic devices。

2. PTC Thermistors & Varistors

Main feedstock for positive‑temperature‑coefficient thermistors, voltage‑dependent resistors and other electro‑ceramic components for household appliances and power electronics。

3. Electronic Ceramic & LTCC Substrate Materials

Used for low‑temperature co‑fired ceramic substrates, barium ferrite magnetic materials, piezoelectric ceramics, strictly restricted Na, Fe, Sr impurity to avoid device performance degradation。

4. Optical Glass & Display‑related Materials

Applied in high‑transmittance optical glass, special glass for electronic display tubes, optimize glass gloss, hardness and optical performance。

5. Fine Chemical Synthesis

Safety Precautions

1. Ingestion (Most Dangerous Route of Exposure)

This is the most common route of barium carbonate poisoning.

Emergency Treatment: Induce vomiting immediately and perform gastric lavage with a 2%–5% sodium sulfate solution. Sodium sulfate (or magnesium sulfate) reacts with soluble barium ions to form insoluble barium sulfate, thus providing an antidote.

Key Principle: Seek immediate medical attention. Inform the doctor of "oral barium carbonate poisoning" when seeking medical attention.

2. Inhalation

Move the patient quickly to fresh air and keep the airway open. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult.

3. Skin and Eye Contact

Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Eyes: Lift eyelids and flush with running water or saline solution before seeking medical attention.

4. Spill Handling

Personal Protection: Wear a full-face dust mask and protective clothing. Do not directly contact the spilled material.

Cleanup Method: Avoid dust. Use a clean shovel to collect the spilled material in a dry, covered container. Do not rinse with water to prevent the spread of contamination.

5. Firefighting Measures

Characteristics: This product is non-flammable. However, it decomposes when heated, releasing toxic fumes such as barium oxide.

Extinguishing Agents: Use water, sand, or carbon dioxide. If an ignition source is nearby, use an extinguishing agent suitable for the surrounding fire.
