Basic Properties

Physical Properties

- Appearance & Odor: Colorless to nearly colorless transparent oily liquid; slight characteristic acrylic odor; no visible impurities at room temperature

- Solubility: Miscible with water, ethanol, acetone, and most organic solvents; excellent hydrophilicity and solvent compatibility

- Physical Stability: Low-viscosity liquid at room temperature; no stratification or precipitation under normal sealed storage

Chemical Properties

- Stability: Relatively stable under normal temperature, pressure and sealed dark storage; stabilized with MEHQ to prevent self-polymerization. Unstable under high temperature, strong UV radiation, free radical initiators, and strong oxidants

- Polymerization Reactivity: Prone to exothermic self-polymerization when heated or contaminated with initiators; copolymerizes easily with acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, styrene, and other vinyl monomers

- Hydroxyl Activity: Terminal hydroxyl group can undergo esterification, etherification, and cross-linking reactions with isocyanates, carboxylic acids, and epoxy groups

- Hydrolysis Property: Slow hydrolysis in neutral aqueous solution; accelerated hydrolysis under strong acid or strong alkaline conditions to produce acrylic acid and ethylene glycol

- Corrosivity: Slightly corrosive to human skin, eyes and mucous membranes; non-corrosive to common metal equipment under normal operating concentrations

Main Applications

Used for manufacturing concrete water‑reducing agents.
Acts as cross‑linking agent and polymerization monomer, widely applied in pressure‑sensitive adhesives, coatings, resins, adhesives and other industries.
Applied in water‑borne electroplating coatings, textile auxiliaries, etc.

Safety Precautions

1. Skin Contact

Immediate Action: Quickly remove contaminated clothing and flush the area with copious amounts of running water for at least 20 minutes.

Important Note: Do not use hot water (hot water dilates pores and accelerates penetration). After flushing, wash the area again with a mild, pH-neutral soap solution.

Medical Advice: Seek medical observation even if there is no immediate pain (symptoms such as redness, swelling, or blistering may be delayed by 6–24 hours).

2. Eye Contact

Flushing Technique: Hold the eyelids open and flush continuously with lukewarm water for at least 30 minutes, ensuring the eyeball is rotated during the process.

Contraindications: Do not use acidic or alkaline neutralizing agents for flushing, as this may aggravate thermal burns. After flushing, a fluorescein sodium stain test is required to assess potential corneal damage.

3. Spill Handling

Absorbent Materials: Cover the spill with an inert absorbent (e.g., vermiculite, diatomaceous earth); do not use sawdust (which poses a fire risk).

Waste Disposal: Collect the material and place it in an open-top metal drum (to allow for the dissipation of heat generated by polymerization). Add a polymerization inhibitor, then transfer the waste to a hazardous waste facility for incineration.
