- Solubility:Easily soluble in water and glycerol. At 20℃, 20 g of sodium carbonate can dissolve in 100 g of water; solubility reaches a maximum at 35.4℃, dissolving 49.7 g of sodium carbonate in 100 g of water. Slightly soluble in anhydrous ethanol, poorly soluble in propanol.

- Aqueous Solution Properties:Conductive in aqueous solution or molten state, with astringent taste and slippery feel
- Hygroscopicity:Hygroscopic, gradually absorbing water from the air to reach approximately 1 mol/L (around 15%)
- Hydrates:Na2CO3·H2O, Na2CO3·7H2O, and Na2CO3·10H2O
Chemical properties
An aqueous solution of sodium carbonate is alkaline and somewhat corrosive. It can undergo double decomposition reactions with acids and also with certain calcium and barium salts. The solution is alkaline and can turn phenolphthalein red.
Main Applications
1. Used for float glass, picture tube glass shell, optical glass, etc.
2. Used in chemical industry, metallurgy, etc. Reduce the flying of alkali dust, reduce the consumption of raw materials, and reduce the erosion of alkali powder on refractory materials, and extend the service life of the kiln.
3. As a buffer, neutralizer and dough improver, it can be used in pastries and flour foods, and can be used in appropriate quantities according to production needs.
4. As a detergent, it is used for wool rinsing, bath salts and medicine, and alkali in tanning leather.
5. Used in the food industry as a neutralizer and leavening agent, such as making amino acids, soy sauce and noodle foods such as steamed buns and bread.
6. Used in the pharmaceutical industry, as an antacid and osmotic laxative.
7. It is used for chemical and electrochemical degreasing, electroless copper plating, aluminum erosion, aluminum and alloy electrolytic polishing, aluminum chemical oxidation, sealing after phosphating, rust prevention between processes, electrolytic removal of chrome plating and oxide film of chromium removal, etc., and is also used in pre-plating, steel plating, and steel plating alloy electrolyte
8. The metallurgical industry is used as a fluxing agent for smelting and mineral processing, and steelmaking and antimony are used as desulfurizers.
9. It is used as a water softener in the printing and dyeing industry.
10. The tanning industry is used for degreasing, neutralizing chrome tanning leather and improving the alkalinity of chrome tanning liquid in raw leather.
