Benzoic Acid

Benzoic Acid is a simple aromatic carboxylic acid. It appears as white crystalline scales or needles at room temperature, is slightly soluble in water, and readily soluble in organic solvents like ethanol and ether. Benzoic acid and its sodium salt (sodium benzoate) are among the oldest and most widely used acidic preservatives, effective against yeasts, bacteria, and molds. It is primarily used to preserve food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and industrial products.
