Reactivity: Reacts with nitrites to produce nitrogen gas, a reaction commonly used in laboratories and industry to remove nitrites. Reacts with various metal oxides and carbonates to form soluble salts, making it effective in dissolving scale.
Main Applications
Cleaning & Descaling: An efficient and safe cleaning agent widely used to remove calcium carbonate and rust scale from equipment like heat exchangers, boilers, condensers, and cooling towers. It is much less corrosive to metals than hydrochloric acid.
Bleaching & Disinfection: Used as a bleaching agent for textiles, a stabilizer for bleaching paper and pulp. Also used as a chlorine stabilizer and disinfectant in swimming pools.
Chemical Synthesis: Used in the synthesis of sweeteners (e.g., sodium cyclamate), flame retardants, sulfamate salts (e.g., ammonium, sodium, calcium, magnesium), electroplating bath additives, and in the dye and pigment industry.
Other Uses: Used for acidification treatment in the petroleum industry and as a standard acid for analytical titration in laboratories.
