Sodium formate 92%,95%,98%

Sodium formate (also known as formic acid sodium), contains two molecules of crystallization water in its crystals. Sodium formate is the simplest organic carboxylate, appearing as white crystals or powder with a slight formic acid odor. It is slightly deliquescent and hygroscopic. It dissolves easily in about 1.3 parts water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol and octanol, and insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline.

Main Applications

- Leather Industry: Sodium formate, as a reducing agent in the leather industry, can be used to catalyze the production of dyes and bleaches.

- Petroleum Industry: In the petroleum industry, sodium formate is used as a water-reducing agent and acidifying agent, which can reduce hydrate content and promote oil well production.

- Chemical Synthesis: Sodium formate is commonly used as a reducing agent and catalyst in organic synthesis, participating in the preparation of esters and the reduction of aldehydes, among other reactions.

Safety Precautions

  • Inhalation: Inhaling sodium formate powder or vapor may cause respiratory irritation, leading to symptoms such as coughing and sore throat. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of sodium formate vapor can damage the respiratory system.

  • Skin contact: Contact with sodium formate may cause redness, stinging, and burns. Prolonged or excessive contact should be avoided.

  • Eye contact: Sodium formate solution or powder entering the eyes may cause irritation and discomfort.

  • Ingestion: Accidental ingestion of sodium formate may cause gastrointestinal irritation and discomfort. In severe cases, it may lead to difficulty breathing, shock, and toxic damage. Seek medical attention immediately if ingested.

  • Firefighting measures: Sodium formate may release toxic gases when heated or in contact with oxidizing agents. In case of fire, use dry powder or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire, and avoid using water.

  • Storage precautions: Sodium formate should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from sources of fire and oxidizing agents. Avoid mixing it with acids, combustible materials, or oxidizers.

  • Waste disposal: Dispose of according to local regulations; do not release it into the environment. In case of accidental contact or ingestion of sodium formate, seek medical attention immediately and bring relevant chemical information.
