Main Applications
[Use 2] Used as an organic reagent.
[Use 3] Important organic chemical raw material and intermediate for polymers. Its most important derivative is methyl methacrylate, which is used to produce organic glass for aircraft and civil building windows, and can also be processed into buttons, solar filters, and automotive lamp lenses; the coatings produced have superior suspension, rheological, and durability characteristics; the adhesives made can be used for bonding metals, leather, plastics, and construction materials; methyl acrylate polymer emulsion is used as a fabric finishing agent and antistatic agent. Additionally, methacrylic acid can be used as a raw material for synthetic rubber.
[Use 4] Used for manufacturing resins and plastics, and for producing esters.
Safety Precautions
This product has moderate toxicity and is highly irritating to the skin and mucous membranes. The oral LD50 for rats is 8400 mg/kg. However, no carcinogenic effects have been observed. The permissible exposure limit in the workplace is 100×10-6 (temporary work area). Good ventilation conditions are required in production workshops, and operators must wear protective gear, especially safety goggles. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with plenty of water.
